Home Affairs Minster welcomes swift deportation process of 95 Libyans found at suspected military camp

Home Affairs Minister Leon Scheiber has welcomed the swift conclusion of the deportation process of 95 Libyan nationals found at a suspected military camp in Mpumalanga.

The men were arrested on 26 July, when police raided the training camp near White River.

The group left South Africa on Sunday from the Kruger Mpumalanga Airport.

Authorities found that the Libyan nationals entered the country in April on visas issued for training as security guards, however, they were receiving military training.

Home Affairs Minister Schreiber: “I wish to commend the Home Affairs officials and the law enforcement officers who worked tirelessly to ensure an expeditious processing and deportation. We will continue to deploy all resources at our disposal to ensure that South Africa’s immigration laws are respected and observed at all times.”
