9-year-old girl missing since Monday in Snathing, KZN

A nine-year-old girl has gone missing in the Snathing area of Edendale in Pietermaritzburg.

Asenathi Ngcobo, who lives with her family’s former neighbour, was supposed to have jumped out of a taxi and headed for her place of residence after visiting a clinic with her mother on Monday.

“I left her at the bus stop and proceeded with a taxi to Peace Valley where we stay now,” her mother Nondumiso Ngcobo, said.

“We relocated in June and left Asenathi with our trusted neighbour just for her to be closer to the school. She is doing Grade 4 at Snathing Primary,” said Ngcobo.

She added that she had not called the former neighbours as she assumed Asenathi had reached their house safely.

“I called the following day as I was going to ask them to tell her not to go to school with money that I had forgotten in her bag. I was told that she didn’t arrive. I also asked the teachers who also confirmed that she was not at school. That is when I started panicking and searched for her,” she said.

Ngcobo added that Asenathi was wearing her school uniform and that her shoes were not matching as she had been injured on the leg at school. She was also wearing a green jacket.

uMgungundlovu SAPS confirmed that a missing person case is opened for investigation. The police said the search started on Tuesday and it is still ongoing.
