More than 6-million pupils expected in schools for second phase

About 6 million more pupils are expected back at school on 6 July. This is as government continues to open up learning and industries to help the economy amid the coronavirus pandemic.
However, parents are concerned about the safety of their children as COVID-19 cases rise The Department of Basic Education says they’re doing what they can to ensure measures are taken to keep pupils safe from the virus.
“We have been doing a lot of work to prepare for the next cohort of learners that are coming back on the 6th of July. It’s a large number. It’s about 6-million of them who are coming back. Provinces have been focusing on the preparations,” Department of Basic Education spokesperson, Elijah Mhlanga. Mhlanga said the department was concerned about the Eastern Cape and Limpopo, especially on the provision of water.
These are grades that are expected back on 6 July, according to government’s gazette on reopening of schools:
Early Childhood Development (ECD);
Grade 1
Grade 2
Grade 3
Grade 6
Grade 10
Grade 11
School of Skills: Years 2 and 3
Schools for Learners with Severe Intellectual Disabilities (SID): Grades R, 1, 2, 3 and 6; and
Special Care Centres for Learners with Severe and Profound Intellectual Disabilities (LSPID): Years 1-3
The last phase of grades is expected back on 3 August
Grade 4
Grade 5
Grade 8
Grade 9
School of Skills: Year 1; and
