Update: 6-hour rescue mission ends after deadly wall collapse in Ngcobo

In the Eastern Cape, a six-hour rescue mission for survivors following a wall collapse in Ngcobo has concluded.

It’s understood that a shop wall collapsed, claiming the lives of five people and injuring 15 others.

A further eight people have been treated and discharged, while five others have been transferred to Mthatha after sustaining serious injuries.

The Eastern Cape Department of Health has conveyed its condolences to the families of those killed in the tragedy.

“We send our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased,” said Eastern Cape Health Department spokesperson Mkhululi Ndamase.
