20 Arrested in Truck Driver Protests. The Provincial Commissioner for KwaZulu-Natal, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula has welcomed the arrest of twenty individuals in connection with incidents related to protests within the trucking industry. “Police operations have been intensified along major routes and known hotspots within the province and we are on high alert for those that are resorting to acts of criminality and claim to be protesting. We shall have no mercy for those that break the laws of this country,” he said.
On Sunday 2019-09-01 at 14:00, the road to the Richards Bay Harbour was blocked by 11 trucks. Police responded instantly and managed to locate the drivers of the vehicles. Eleven (11) suspects were arrested and detained at Richards Bay SAPS for public violence and obstruction of traffic.
On Sunday 2019-09-01 at 21:40, four (4) suspects were arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm with 15 rounds of ammunition. They were also found in possession of three bottles containing petrol; seven cell phones and a pair of gloves. Police also seized the vehicle that they were travelling in. They were detained Malvern SAPS for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Investigations into their involvement in other crimes are continuing.
On Monday 2019-09-02 at 01:24, five (5) suspects were arrested at Estcourt near the Shell Ultra City. The vehicle that they were travelling in was positively identified in a case where a truck was set alight. The suspects were found in possession of receptacles containing petrol. They were detained at Estcourt SAPS for attempted murder and malicious damage to property.

In More News – 31 arrested for looting in Malvern, Jeppestown
Gauteng police have arrested 31 suspects in Jeppestown and Malvern following the looting of shops on Sunday.
Police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo said shop owners have been opening cases at police stations. On Sunday, a building caught fire at Jeppestown and three people died.
Masondo said the looting began when onlookers looted the shops while police were attending the scene of the fire.
“The situation today [Monday] is under control. There is police visibility in the area. Police will continue with investigations,” Masondo added. read more
