2 arrested in Limpopo for possession of nine unlicensed firearms! Police in Limpopo have arrested a 50-year-old man and his 40-year-old female companion following the discovery of nine unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The arrests were made during an intelligence-driven operation in Thohoyandou.

High-Speed Chase Ends in Arrest

According to provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the operation was conducted by the provincial investigation unit in collaboration with the tracking team. Acting on a tip-off about a suspicious vehicle allegedly carrying firearms, police spotted the car on the R524 road heading toward Punda Maria.

Upon noticing the police presence, the driver attempted to flee. Officers gave chase and successfully intercepted the vehicle in Tshikhudini village. A search of the vehicle revealed a 9mm pistol, for which the driver failed to provide a valid license. He was arrested at the scene.

Home Raid Leads to More Firearms

The investigation continued at the suspect’s residence, where police encountered a woman inside the house. A thorough search led to the discovery of eight additional firearms. The woman was also arrested on the spot. Two high-powered vehicles were seized as part of the ongoing investigation.

Court Appearance and Commendation

The pair is expected to appear before the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe praised the police team for their swift and diligent action. She applauded their efforts in removing illegal weapons from the community and commended their dedication to keeping Limpopo safe.
