10 suspects arrested and 3 hijacked cars recovered

10 suspects were arrested, three guns confiscated and three hijacked vehicles were recovered during the early hours of this morning in New Brighton through swift police reactions.
In the first incident, a white VW Polo was hijacked in Songololo Street, NU11, Motherwell at 22:45. The female owner was gun pointed and her vehicle hijacked by two male suspects as she drove up into her home driveway.
At 00:10 this morning, only an hour after the hijacking, police in New Brighton found the vehicle driving in Stofile Street, New Brighton. Six(6) male suspects with ages between 19 and 24 were arrested and charged with the possession of a stolen vehicle. Police also confiscated a toy firearm and pepper spray that was in the vehicle that could possibly be linked to the hijacking incident. The suspects could also face charges of the hijacking itself should further investigation link them to the crime.
In a second incident, a silver Chevrolet Spark was hijacked at 02:40 from a 31-year-old Uber driver in Meke Street, Kwazakele. The driver was there to pick up his fare, when three(3) suspects armed with one firearm hijacked his vehicle. The vehicle was found abandoned and both number plates removed at 04:30 in Mgubela Street, New Brighton.
In an unrelated incident, SAPS Flying Squad members spotted a suspicious white Toyota Hilux bakkie at a petrol station in Norongo Street, New Brighton at 08:15 this morning. On searching the vehicle and the four(4) passengers, two 9mm pistols, two magazines and 18 rounds of ammunition were found and confiscated. The firearms were found with their serial numbers removed and will be sent for forensic and ballistic analysis.
A generator was also discovered and confiscated as suspected stolen property. All four suspects aged 25, 30, 45 and 52 were arrested on charges of the illegal possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition as well as suspected stolen property.
All the suspects will be appearing before the New Brighton Magistrates Court on 01 April 2019 to face the respective charges against them.
