The Western Cape Cabinet has had a first look at a preliminary independent report the provincial government commissioned on the May building collapse in George.
Premier Alan Winde is, however, still appealing for patience until authorities have completed their investigations into the disaster that caused the death of 33 construction workers and cleaners.
Winde’s Cabinet is facing mounting pressure from opposition parties to act against those responsible for the tragedy.
The police and the labour department are yet to share their findings on what caused a partially completed apartment block in George to cave in while over 60 workers were on site.
Western Cape Premier Alan Winde said that Cabinet on Wednesday received a provincial investigation report tabled by the MEC for infrastructure, Tertuis Simmers.
He said any next steps taken by his government would be guided by the findings of this report but he’s not shared any of its contents.
Winde, however, reiterated his commitment to justice for the victims by ensuring those responsible for the tragedy faced the law.
But he said authorities must be allowed the space to complete their probes.
