Minimum Requirements…

EXPERIENCE:

5 Years Petro Chemical, maintenance pipe welding experience in a supervisory level
5 Years Petro Chemical, Shut Down, pipe welding experience in a supervisory level
Knowledge of NDT processes
Knowledge of Post Weld Heat Treatment requirements
Knowledge & experience pertaining to the requirements and welding acceptance criteria of the ASME and AWS codes
Experience in FCAW, GTAW, SMAW, and automated systems

Knowledge of distortion control

Conversant with the OSHA Act 85 0f 1993
Safe work procedures
Risk assessments
Pre Task Assessments
High job demand in tight turnaround time requirement

Formal Performance management system and application experience
2 Years of welding inspection in the Petro Chemical industry

Must have experience in welding the following materials in a petrochemical environment:

P1
P4
P8
P10 H
Ni-Based Alloys
Must have at least 10 years pipe welding experience in a petrochemical environment.
Must be conversant with ASME and AWS welding codes.
Must be able to understand and interpret a WPS.
Must be able to read and interpret welding symbol as depicted on drawings.
Must be able to read and interpret manufacturing drawings and piping ISO drawings.
Must have knowledge in the handling, storage and control of Stainless steels.
Must have knowledge in the handling, storage and control of different welding consumables.
Must have knowledge of the different welding power sources.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Matric or equivalent
Boilermaker trade
International Welding Practitioner
International Welding Specialist
SAIW QC Level 1 or 2

Job Specification…

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:

Meet weekly planned production targets.
Perform daily / weekly / monthly production planning.
Method statements completed before the job starts.
Develop safe working procedures for welding-related activities.
Ensure welders and operators meet daily production butts/length welded requirements.
Ensure weld failure rate < 2% of butt welds welded per month.
Ensure weld failure rate < 0.2% of length welded per month.
Maximum NCR’s from Inspection or Client = 1 per month.
Identify 5 continuous improvement initiatives and implement 3 (12 Months rolling).
Identify 10 cost-saving initiatives and implement 5 (12 Months rolling).
Ensure QCP packages are signed off 4 hours after job completion.
Zero LTI per annum.
Maximum 2 HSE recorded deviations per 3 month period.
Implement welding processes and new technology related to welding as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

General responsibilities are:

Responsible for profit & losses.
Responsible for execution excellence.
Ensure that all relevant logistical support are in place for your subordinates to execute their task with excellence (material and equipment).

Supply your own trade tools as listed on the tool list attached. In the event that the tools are not available when you start work, you have 3 months to obtain all the tools. The tools indicated in bold font must however be present within a week after appointment.

Planning and Organising responsibilities are:

Ensure quality resource planning.
Ensure that all planned welding activities are being executed in the planned time period.
Setting monthly/weekly/ daily objectives with priorities for the Department.
Setting priorities monthly / weekly / daily for the work in accordance with the planned schedule.
Communicating set priorities and sequencing according to the base plan.
Overseeing and approving (the foremen’s when applicable) weekly and daily planning to ensure they align with the production base plan as communicated by the Superintendent.
Overall planning of resources, plant, equipment, and material for your work area(s).
Identifying and where possible, removing or resolving any hurdles that may impact on your team’s ability to complete the tasks set for the day/week.
Ensuring the necessary drawings and documentation for the monthly/weekly and daily tasks are obtained and understood and communicated to your crew (and foremen when applicable).
Having a daily and weekly plan in place for all the tasks allocated to you.
Ensuring your crews understanding of the task and task sequence to follow.
Planning your tasks and crews activities in such a way that it minimizes time and material wastage and maximizes productivity.
Attending to all necessary planning/production meetings as required of you.
Identifying training needs and plan the necessary corrective activities for employee in question.
Develop plans for subordinate development with specific targets as agreed with the Superintendent.
Communicating all you’re planning to your line supervision and provide continuous updates as necessary.
Ensure that welding crews (and foremen when applicable) adhere to all welding procedures, standards, and controls.
Ensure method statements (including weld sequences, risk assessments, rigging study, etc) are provided for all jobs.
Ensure all welders have been coded and updated to specifications.
Manage welder testing/updates productively and efficiently.
Update history files and qualification status of all welding and related documentation.
Report on outstanding or sub-standard performance in relation to welding.
Ensure that weld maps and reports are according to standard and traceable.
Manage automation (where applicable) to ensure maximum productivity.

Coordinate responsibilities are:

Coordinate and finalize all the necessary plant and equipment such as cranes, scaffolding, machinery, tools that are required to ensure that the daily / weekly plan is achieved successfully.
Creation and coordination of required teamwork inputs for each of your crews.
Setting specific areas of responsibility, targets, time lines and task deadlines with your crew(s) to ensure full understanding of what is required of them.
Ensuring that all necessary rigging crane operations are adequately managed, coordinate and planned for each job (or by the foreman (when required) under your supervision/control).
Communicates clearly the production outcomes required.

Control responsibilities are:

Managing and controlling subordinates in the sequence, method and productivity required for the task to be completed on time and according to specification.
Ensuring that the foremen (when applicable) concentrate on the operational tasks as opposed to coordination which is a SUPERVISORY task.
Ensuring all work is conducted in accordance with all safety specifications, requirements, and rules.
Managing the time and attendance of your crew.
Managing all performance issues as they relate to your crews and completing the necessary documentation.
Managing general discipline issues of your crew.
Custodian of all information and documentation as it relates to operational requirements in your area of responsibility (Including “as built drawings”, weld maps and matrices).
Monitoring training progress and success of training initiatives.
Supervisors are accountable for the Foremen’s (when applicable) outputs.
Identify and implement continuous improvement and cost-saving initiatives.
Ensure that disruption is minimized and that quality standards are achieved.
Ensure that safety standards are adhered too and that risks are managed appropriately.
Ensure that productivity is achieved throughout.
