President Ramaphosa urges South Africans to vote responsibly and wisely

In exactly a week, South Africans will head to the polls to elect local government leaders.

President Cyril Ramaphosa used his weekly newsletter to outline what’s expected of councillors.

The president says the elections are an opportunity to voice concerns about service delivery.

He says elected representatives must be held accountable.

Ramaphosa also laid the responsibility of improving people’s lives at the doors of councillors.

He says they must empower young people and women.

The president says, if needs be, by-laws must be changed to enable business and access to tenders.

Ramaphosa also expressed disappointment with councillors who are not accessible.

He says communities should hold these leaders accountable.
