Paul Mashatile on VIP protection unit saga: My car does not stop for anthing

Deputy President Paul Mashatile has reiterated his stance that he was not in the convoy when his VIP protection unit assaulted occupants of another vehicle on the N1 highway in Johannesburg.

The question was raised during his question and answer session in the National Council of Provinces.

He also reminded members of the NCOP that the car he travels in does not stop for anything and that the matter is currently in court.

“I want to confirm that, honourable chairperson, that indeed I was not there because the cars that carry the president and the deputy president don’t stop for anything,” he said.

The suspects in the VIP protection unit appeared in court in July and were granted R10,000 bail.

They are expected back in court on 27 September.
