UEFA announces new dates for Champions League and Europa Finals

UEFA announces new dates for Champions League and Europa Finals. UEFA has confirmed the new change of dates. The final which was scheduled for May 30, has now been pushed back to Saturday, June 27. The match will take place at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium, Istanbul. This came as a result of the postponement of Euro 2020.

The Champions League and Europa League finals have been suspended because of the rapid Coronavirus outbreak.

The EURO tournament which was supposed to held from June 12 to July 12 this year has been pushed back 12 months and will now take place from June 11 to July 11, 2021. This year’s Europa League final has also been pushed back from Wednesday, May 27 to Wednesday, June 24.

UEFA are still to make decisions regarding the scheduling of their two competitions now that the finals have been moved to a further date. However, they are keeping all options open if the fixtures cannot be completed in time for those dates.

Earlier there were reports that they would hold one-leg ties in the remaining rounds and replace the semi-finals with four-team mini-tournaments at the venues which will hold the finals.

This would mean all teams who would have qualified for the semi-finals of the Champions League and Europa League being invited to showpiece competitions in Istanbul and Gdansk respectively.

The situation, however, remains unpredictable and UEFA seems to have taken on a reactionary role. At the moment, Europe’s major football leagues have all postponed their games with Italy, Spain and France currently on lockdown.
