Almost all celebrities around the world thrive to have that small blue tick right next to their usernames on various social media platforms especially Twitter and Instagram. However, there are those that could not be bothered by the craze surrounding a verified account.
This batch of our beloved celebrities certainly has some of us surprised, especially when we consider them as high profile, hence it is rare for celebrities especially new age one’s to shy away or see no significance in regards to having a verified social media account.
One such celebrity is one of South Africa’s respected and revered musicians, Sjava. A highly curious fan enquired about Sjava’s lack of enthusiasm in regards to verifying his Twitter account, of which Sjava calmly downplayed it as he clearly did not see the need to crave such a “verification”.
Many of Sjava’s staunch followers know just how nonchalant he is with the level of fame and commercial success that he has acquired over the years especially as a musician. Some of his followers on Twitter dragged Anele (curious tweep), for enquiring about a senseless matter as most of them were merely satisfied with just consuming Sjava’s wholesome music.

Clearly being verified on Twitter is a thing, whereby some celebrities take jabs at each other, based on how many followers does the other have.
Clearly being verified on Twitter is a thing, whereby some celebrities take jabs at each other, based on how many followers does the other have.
A few years ago, lovers of music, especially hip hop waited in bated breath for the ballooning of a possible beef between South African television presenter and hip hop authority, Siyabonga Scoop Ngwekazi and award-winning rapper, Shane Eagle. However, nothing much came out of it hence the misunderstanding was squashed quickly.
The local hip hop scene knows just how much weight Scoop’s opinion actually carries. Therefore when he casually and innocuously mentioned that he had not listened to Shane’s album at that time, Shane sent a fiery tweet, stating that “no one cares about what he has to say” and that he is not even verified. This move from Shane was perceived as a diss to Scoop, proving that Twitter verification is quite a thing in these social media streets.
The whole frenzy around celebrities being verified is clearly a non-factor for some celebrities, and you know what? It’s actually okay.
