Germiston turf wars escalating

Illegal miners are terrorizing residents of Primrose in Germiston.

Locals say there is gunfire every night from mid-week until Sunday due to turf wars between rival gangs.

On Friday, police discovered the bodies of eight suspected illegal miners at a dumping site.

The bodies had already begun decomposing.

The Primrose Ratepayers Association’s David-Hutch Barr said they’ve had issues with illegal miners for the past two years.

“We have been working together with the residents and private security. There have been operations performed by EMPD and SAPS and they have made arrests.” Barr said.

“But this is clearly not enough. They are actually underequipped, I believe, to take care of the problem in the area.”
