Authorities are investigating the torching of several trucks on the N3 highway.
At least four trucks have been set alight between Mooi River and Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal.
The Provincial Road Traffic Inspectorate says reports that around 17 trucks were burnt are incorrect.
Zinhle Mngomezulu said two trucks were torched.
“We believe they were petrol-bombed,” she said.
The trucks were allegedly carrying a flammable substance and the highway had to be closed for at least six hours.
Meanwhile, Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula says he will go to Durban.
Trucks in the area were set alight earlier this year because of unhappiness over the employment of foreign drivers.
Mbalula said an interministerial committee will tackle some of the issues.
