Transnet execs allegedly bent the law, Zondo Commission hears

The latest witness at the state capture inquiry is an executive manager of governance at Transnet.

But following two days of evidence from Peter Volmink, it doesn’t sound like much governance was taking place.

He’s testified about past Transnet leaders bending and breaking rules, all to favour certain companies.

Volmink flagged five dubious deals.

“It is not deeply complex principles that were not followed and it suggests in my view an element of either gross negligence or wilfulness in not following the transaction,” he testified.

The acting group CEO testifies next Wednesday.
