Top CEO backs mandatory vaccinations in South Africa

The CEO of South Africa’s largest pharmaceutical company Aspen is backing Discovery’s move to introduce compulsory vaccination. Stephen Saad says everyone should get the COVID-19 jab to slow the spread of the virus.

Discovery has become the first major corporate in the country to make it mandatory for all staff to be vaccinated.

The insurer says its policy is being driven by a moral and social obligation to make people healthier. I am not sure of the legal implications that it can be or should be mandatory, (but) I completely subscribe to it.

Saad said that, at the very least, those people who opt not to be vaccinated should be inconvenienced by getting tests every few days or once a week to show that they are Covid-19 negative. Unvaccinated people should also be blocked from certain areas without masks on, he said.
