Tokelo Rantie joins Cape Town City

The striker’s arrival in the Mother City is yet another indication of the impact the new Cape PSL club has made since its formation in 2016.

Tokelo Rantie is back in the PSL after spending a few years in Europe, with the Bafana Bafana striker penning a deal with ambitious Cape Town City.

Rantie, 27, has played for Orlando Pirates in the PSL, Malmo in Sweden, Bournemouth in England and Gençlerbirliği in Turkey.

City’s capture of the prized forward – which they announced on social media on Saturday morning – is a major boost to their chances of challenging for the league title this season.

City coach Benni McCarthy has been vocal about the lack of a consistent goal-scorer in his team.

Now, with the speedy Rantie, he has a striker capable of turning opportunities into goals.

With City this season having brought in Dutch goalkeeper Peter Leeuwenburgh, and the confirmation of Rantie’s return from his European sojourn, the rest of the PSL should all be on notice: City are a team to watch.
