Tinubu Reaffirms Commitment to South East Development

Tinubu- The National Coordinator of the South East Renewed Hope Agenda (SERHA), Belusochukwu Enwere, has reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to the development and economic growth of the South East region. He emphasized that the president holds the South East in high regard and is determined to fully integrate the region into Nigeria’s national development agenda.

Enwere made these remarks on Saturday during an empowerment programme in Umuahia, the Abia State capital. The event featured the inauguration of the state chapter of SERHA, along with a wide-reaching empowerment initiative aimed at uplifting small business owners, women, and economically disadvantaged individuals.

Tinubu’s Vision for an Inclusive and Developed South East

Speaking to a crowd of beneficiaries and community leaders, Enwere praised President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, describing it as a transformative vision that seeks to bring equitable progress to all regions of Nigeria, including the historically marginalized South East.

“President Tinubu is determined to empower citizens in the South-Eastern states and ensure this region is not left behind. His commitment is not just in words but in action,” Enwere stated.

He urged residents to continue supporting the president’s initiatives and policies, emphasizing that the South East stands to benefit greatly from Tinubu’s administration. He also voiced strong support for the president’s second-term ambition in 2027, describing the Renewed Hope Agenda as a long-term national roadmap that needs continuity to achieve its full potential.

“We gather today as a collective voice, united in our determination to support President Tinubu for a second term. We believe in his vision, his leadership, and his unwavering commitment to building a brighter future for our nation,” he added.

The event was marked by the distribution of empowerment tools and financial assistance to hundreds of beneficiaries across different communities. Items distributed included motorcycles, mini buses, sewing machines, hair dryers, and grinding machines, all aimed at boosting self-reliance and small-scale enterprise.

In addition to these tools, significant financial support was extended to small businesses and indigent families. According to SERHA, the distribution included:

  • ₦200,000 each to 100 small business owners
  • ₦100,000 each to 200 businesses
  • ₦50,000 each to 300 micro-enterprises
  • ₦20,000 each to 500 indigent families

These empowerment initiatives, Enwere noted, are consistent with President Tinubu’s belief that economic progress must be driven from the bottom up—by empowering people at the grassroots level.

Enwere used the platform to highlight several key policy milestones under the Tinubu administration, which he said have had meaningful impacts nationwide and particularly in the South East.

One of these is the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, a federal initiative designed to support indigent students and reduce the dropout rate in tertiary institutions. He described it as a “game-changer” in ensuring educational equity across Nigeria.

He also lauded the controversial but bold decision to remove fuel subsidies, arguing that it has helped to reduce corruption in the oil and gas sector while redirecting substantial funds to capital and developmental projects.

Another major highlight was the establishment of the South East Development Commission, which Enwere said would accelerate infrastructure and human capital development across the region. He urged citizens to see the commission as a long-overdue mechanism for regional growth and to actively support its activities.

The Abia State Coordinator of SERHA, Ambassador Uche Hilary-Adibe (JP), also addressed the gathering, echoing Enwere’s sentiments. He praised President Tinubu for his inclusive governance style and reaffirmed the South East’s support for the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“Today, we are honoured to welcome the national leadership of the Renewed Hope Agenda to Abia State. Your presence is a testament to the importance of grassroots mobilisation, youth and women empowerment, and community engagement in driving our collective progress,” Hilary-Adibe said.

He encouraged residents of Abia and the broader South East to take full advantage of the empowerment opportunities being provided, and to remain committed to building a better future for their children.

“President Tinubu has shown goodwill toward the South East. It is now our responsibility to rise, support these initiatives, and ensure we do not miss out on this moment of national transformation,” he concluded.

With the Renewed Hope Agenda reaching into the heart of South East Nigeria, the Tinubu administration is signaling that inclusive development remains a top priority. While challenges persist, initiatives like Saturday’s empowerment program in Umuahia highlight a growing effort to make federal support more accessible to citizens at the grassroots level.
