The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has some of the most memorable and worthwhile quests in the RPG genre. The Hearts of Stone DLC added enough content that rivals most standalone titles. One of the best and most hilarious quests in the DLC is the main quest called Dead Man’s Party.
The quest plays out like a comedy adventure as Geralt’s body is no longer under his control. The dialogue is outstanding when one hears the protagonist’s gravely toned voice break character and spout out some of the best lines in the series. This is a complete guide to the Dead Man’s Party quest from The Witcher 3’s Hearts of Stone.
Starting The Dead Man’s Party Quest
- The Dead Man’s Party quest requires Geralt to be at least Level 33.
- Walk to the nearest Fast Travel point in The Witcher 3‘s world and head South to Oxenfurt Harbor.
- Walk south to Shani’s Clinic.
- Head upstairs to walk in on The Witcher 3‘s Shani talking with some Redanian soldiers.
- Shani will walk away to work on an antidote.
- Geralt will have a conversation with the soldiers, and they’ll press Geralt about whether or not he finds her attractive.
- It doesn’t matter what Geralt answers with.
- After a conversation about Shani’s travels, the events of his last quest, and asking for help, Geralt will arrange to meet her at the von Everec Manor to find the crypt of Vlodimir von Everec.
- The Everec Family Crypt is north of Oxenfurt.
- Use fast travel to the Draken Hollow Outpost and head East to meet Shani.
- Geralt will find Shani weaving a Garland.
- After the conversation, Shani will hand Geralt a Censor.
- Follow Shani to the von Everec Crypt, and she waits outside while Geralt goes in.
The von Everec Crypt
- After getting deeper into the crypt, Geralt will encounter some Wraiths.
- Coat Geralt’s sword with Spector Oil.
- Get needs to use the YRDEN magic trap to slow them down.
- Keep using the side step move to avoid being surrounded.
- After defeating the Wraiths, use Geralt’s Witcher senses to investigate the area.
- Vlodimir’s coffin is North East of the crypt area, with the saber perched in front of it.
- Ensure that Geralt has the Censer equipped.
- Press and hold the R1 button to activate the Censer and spread incense to summon the spirits to locations marked on the minimap.
- Ignite the item in the middle of the crypt. Geralt will perform a ritual, awaken five angry spirits of the von Everec family, and trigger a fight.
- As with the Wraiths, coat Geralt’s sword in Spector Oil but avoid using magic.
- After the fight, Vlodimir will appear and introduce himself.
- After the conversation continues, Geralt will have a choice of dialogue and then select Guess I could bring you, someone, to possess.
Vlodimir’s Possession
- Vlodimir will possess Geralt’s body and awaken on Shani’s lap. Vlodimir has control of Geralt’s body as he spouts flirtatious poetry to her.
- Vlodimir and Geralt will separate briefly, and a comedic exchange will ensue as only Geralt can see the specter.
- Geralt explains the situation to Shani. So Shani has an idea to take Geralt and Vlodimir to a wedding ceremony in Brunwich.
The Wedding
- Leave the crypt and head north to Brunwich and meet up with Shani.
- Geralt can use the fast travel point at the Von Everec Estate or ride there on Roach.
- Before meeting with Shani, Vlodimir will instruct Geralt that he needs something more suitable to wear.
- Select “Good idea” and get Geralt some new clothes, and he’ll tidy himself up to meet Shani.
- After a cutscene, Vlodimir will reluctantly agrees to leave Geralt’s body at midnight.
- Shani and Geralt will offer their best wishes to the newlyweds, and Vlodimir/Geralt will have some hilarious dialogue to choose from.
- After the conversation with the couple, Vlodimir/Geralt participates in some wedding activities to pass the time and enjoy himself.
The Fire Eater
- After a conversation with the bride’s mother, Vlodimir/Geralt agrees to find the missing fire eater and bring him back to the wedding.
- Track the dog’s footprints into the forest. They will lead Geralt/Vlodimir to the fire eater stuck in a tree and being barked at by the local dog.
- Choose to calm the dog, and it will stop barking.
- After the conversation, walk back to the wedding with the fire eater.
- A level 34 wild boar will attack from the woods. Use Geralt’s AXII to slow it down and kill the beast.
- After the fight, Geralt/Vlodimir and the fire eater will arrive to entertain the guests.
Play Gwent With The Dwarves
- Approach the table with the dwarves, and they’ll ask Vlodimir/Geralt if he wants to play a game of Gwent.
- After insulting the players, Vlodimir agrees to play, but the loser has to wear the ears of an ass.

Dancing In The Barn
- After completing two activities, Geralt/Vlodimir will dance in the barn, but Gaunter O’Dimm will appear on stage and encourage a slow dance.
- After flirting with Shani, he attempts to kiss her but gets scolded for his efforts.
- However, this action appears to have brought Geralt and Shani closer together.
- After the dance scene, speak To Gaunter O’Dimm.
- Approach and speak to Gaunter, and he’ll insult and taunt Vlodimir about his brother.
King Of The Swineherds
- Approach the pigpen area, and Geralt/Vlodimir will talk to the farmer near the fence.
- The men are attempting to get the pigs into the pen for sport.
- Vlodimir will join in and attempt to become king of the Swineherds.
- To get the pigs with circles into the pen, approach them from behind and from the side.
- Geralt will receive the pig trophy as a reward.
- Setting the pig trophy in Geralt’s inventory will grant a 15% gold bonus.
A Brawl With Three Angry Brothers
- After winning the pig competition, Shani will challenge Vlodimir to seduce a woman sitting on her own.
- After making progress with the lady, her three angry brothers will show up and challenge Vlodimir to a fight.
- Armed with a piece of fencing, Vlodimir accepts the challenge.
- To win the fight, use Geralt’s side steps, and counter their attacks.
- After the fight, Geralt scolds Vlodimir and forces him to explain himself to Shani.
Diving For A Slipper
- Approach the small pond, and watch the dialogue between the couples.
- Vlodimir will get challenged to dive into the water and find the lost slipper.
- Use the Witcher senses to find it and the other lady’s slippers glowing red for an extra bit of entertaining dialogue.
The Capping Ceremony
- With all the activities complete, Vlodimir and Shani make their way to the Capping Ceremony.
- Choose the option to make a speech and enjoy the antics and Vlodimir’s backhanded but complementary gestures.
- After the ceremony, Shani will catch the Garland, and Vlodimir will write a letter to his brother Oligeird to say he had the time of his life.
- Gaunter will appear and force Vlodimir to leave and return to his crypt.
- Gaunter will give Geralt some advice, setting up a side quest to make it up to her.
A Midnight Clear Side Quest
- After Gaunter has left, Geralt has the chance to romance Shani.
- Check Shani’s character profile in the menu.
- Geralt should give her a gift, but it’s a choice between a Rowan petal, brandy, or mead.
- Any choice will lead to the same result, but the Rowan petals are the most heartfelt option.
- A long interaction between the characters will play out, and the side quest will be complete.
Back To Oxenfurt
Travel back to the Oxenfurt Harbor and speak the Oligierd. Geralt will show him the letter, and this will complete the Dead Man’s Party quest. The next task on Geralt’s list for von Everec and Gaunter is the Open Sesame quest in The Witcher 3.
