The Department of Higher Education and Training is set to form a national task force to focus on safety and security at institutions of higher learning.
Minister Blade Nzimande made the announcement earlier at Fort Hare University in the Eastern Cape. It follows the murder of Mboneli Vesele, the bodyguard of Vice Chancellor Sakhele Buhlungu.
It’s believed the assailants were after Buhlungu, whose life has been threatened before. Nzimande says the department has identified institutions that require monitoring where safety is concerned.
