Concerns over robberies targeting tourists in Mpumalanga

Police Minister Bheki Cele says about 11 robberies have been reported in the area where a German tourist was killed on Monday.

Cele visited Mpumalanga on Wednesday.

The minister admits that more work needs to be done by the men in blue in combating crime in the area.

“It’s a sad situation and it does look like we have a problem here.

“I’ve been given about 11 cases of robberies, fortunately, there has been no murder of those foreign national tourists,” he said.

“We’ve not done very well with arresting regarding these cases, only two arrests have been made.”

Three persons of interest are in police custody after the 67-year-old German tourist was shot dead.

The man was killed when his vehicle was attacked en route to the Kruger National Park in Mpumalanga.
