City of Cape Town firefighters were trying to bring a fire that broke out near the cable car station under control on Saturday afternoon.
The City’s fire and rescue service said the fire was ignited by vehicle that caught alight earlier.
Eight firefighting crews were deployed.
They were being assisted by crews from the Table Mountain National Park.
No injuries have been reported.
“Our incident management team type 4 has been activated and currently 3 Huey helicopters are water bombing, with a Black Hawk inbound,” said City Fire Services spokesperson Jermaine Carelse.
“This is an extensive area of vegetation alight and Tafelberg Road has been closed off to the public to ensure emergency vehicles have unobstructed access.”
