You don’t need a man to Survive

OVER the years, Andiswa Mzamo has become proof that women can do anything they set their minds to.

The 34-year-old from Marcus Garvey, Cape Town, told Daily Sun she bought her first taxi in 2017.

The mum of three’s journey in the taxi industry started when she saved money from her job at a driving school to buy a Toyota Tazz for a scholar transport business.

“I started with three kids and I’m proud of where I am today. When you work hard and you know what you want, you will succeed,” she said.

Mzamo said although she was the owner of two taxis, she didn’t go to the ranks.

“It’s dangerous. I only deal with staff transport going to Athlone,” she said.

“There is nothing wrong with working from a rank and many women do it. I respect them for going out there and doing what most people think is only man’s work.”

Mzamo’s advice to other women was not to spend time with people who were negative about what they were trying to do.

“Leave those people behind. To become something you have to start from the bottom,” she said.

Mzamo said she got up at 4am every morning to drive 30 passengers to work.

“I’m proud every time I see a hard-working woman. It shows you don’t have to be with a man to succeed,” she said.
