Springbok coach to step down after Rugby World Cup

Springbok coach Jacques Nienaber will step down as coach after the Rugby World Cup later this year. Nienaber is poised to take a coaching position with Leinster in Ireland next year. According to an SA Rugby statement, Nienaber cited personal reasons for the decision.

He however has assured South Africans that he will give everything in the Springboks’ title defence in France.

Nienaber has served several roles within the SA rugby structures which include as Boks assistant coach at the 2011 and 2019 World Cups before stepping into the head coach role in 2020. He had succeeded Rassie Erasmus, who is now SA Rugby Director of Rugby.
