The Wife actor Sipho Ndlovu (Sambulo Zulu) ARRESTED

Popular South African actress Thandeka Mhlanga, who took to social media on Tuesday 16 July to accuse popular actor Sipho Ndlovu of gender-based violence (GBV), has been arrested.

Speaking to Sunday World, Ndlovu — well known for his role as Sambulo Zulu in The Wife — said he opened a case at the Douglasdale police station in Johannesburg on Wednesday evening.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Mhlanga shared images of her bruised eye with the caption “results of dating a weak man. Please share and repost.”

Opening up about the alleged incident in an interview with ZiMoja, the 33-year-old claimed that Ndlovu had called her at 18:00 on Saturday to wish her a good night as he was about to go to sleep.

Mhlanga, who said she found her boyfriend’s behaviour suspicious, called again at 20:00 and the actor pretended to be asleep.

“When he finally answered my call, he pretended to be sleeping but I could hear that he was not in bed. I then drove to his place and when I arrived there, the security refused to let me in until I forcefully let myself inside the estate,” she said.

The actress, who said Ndlovu had cheated on her before, claimed that that the actor was already outside when she arrived and that she could tell he was with a woman.

“He blocked me from entering the house and he slapped me and pushed me to the ground before throwing me out,” she said.

The Isitha: The Enemy actor has vehemently denied physically assaulting Mhlanga — who he started dating in January this year.

“I never assaulted her. And if you can check the pictures that she posted you will see it does not reflect what she said on social media. She told people she drove to my place and then I blocked her when she tried to get inside the house. And I slapped her and put her down,” said Ndlovu.

He told Sunday World that he gave the police video evidence of the incident allegedly showing the actress climbing a wall to get into the estate.

“We are dealing with someone who is bitter and wants to destroy my name with something so sensitive and serious like gender-based violence. You cannot use such just because you are hurt and lie about being assaulted. She was caught on the wall.”

In addition, the Queen Modjadji actor claimed that Mhlanga lied about opening a case against him.

He also revealed that Mhlanga was arrested at her workplace on Thursday morning.

Her arrest was confirmed by Gauteng Police spokesperson Colonel Noxolo Kweza who said a case of harassment, crimen injuria, trespassing as well as defamation of character had been opened.

Mhlanga will appear before the Randburg magistrate’s court on Friday, 19 July.
