Service delivery protests have spread across South Africa, a month before the general elections.
Protests have also flared up in parts of Pretoria on Thursday morning.
Soshanguve and Hammanskraal are on lockdown, with protesters blocking exits with burning tyres and objects.
Law enforcement authorities in the capital city say the reason for the protests are unclear at this stage.
“We are still yet to confirm exactly what are the issues,” said Tshwane Metro Police Spokesperson Isaac Mahamba. “
We are not going to tolerate any misbehavior, we are ready as police to deal with any situation that might arise.”
Metro police are warning motorists to use alternative routes.
Tshwane Mayor Stevens Mokgalapa is expected to deliver the state of the city address.
