SANTACO blames the lack of dedicated minibus lanes for repeat infringements

Taxi South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) is blaming a lack of dedicated minibus lanes for repeat infringements.

On Tuesday, City of Cape Town officials arrested two operators with outstanding fines of over R100,000 each.

The metro said the top 100 traffic law offenders owe millions.

SANTACO’s Makhosandile Tumana said taxi drivers are under pressure to get commuters to work on time and beat the traffic during peak hours.

“We saw them, they did exactly that to open up roads for the busses for MyCiti bus. Why can’t the government put a dedicated line for the taxis to drive freely in the mornings, freely in the afternoon?”
