Manhunt for 4 suspects who evaded arrest after deadly Sandton shootout

Police have launched a manhunt for four suspects who evaded arrest during a shooting with police on Pretoria Main Road near Marlboro Drive in Sandton on Wednesday afternoon.

One suspect was shot and killed by police during the brazen shooting on the busy off-ramp.

The men allegedly committed a business robbery in Centurion before police confronted them.

A high-speed police chase resulted in a brazen shootout between law enforcement and a gang of suspected business robbers in Sandton on Wednesday afternoon.

JMPD spokesperson, Xolani Fihla, said the suspects had committed a robbery at a business park on Saxby Avenue in Centurion, where one person was shot and rushed to hospital.

“Officers waited at the Woodmead off-ramp and the sought vehicle was spotted. Officers initiated a takedown and the vehicle failed to stop. A chase ensued, with the officers in hot pursuit.”

The chase continued until the suspects’ vehicle came to a halt on Pretoria Main Road, near Marlboro Drive.

“Five occupants of the vehicle from the vehicle exited while shooting at the officers. The officers returned fire. One suspect sustained fatal injuries and the other four managed to evade capture.”

Motorists are urged to avoid Pretoria Main Road between Marlboro Drive and Viola Avenue.
