Royal bride-to-be Meghan Markle won’t be promising to obey Prince Harry

She’s not the first royal bride to choose to omit the phrase: her late mother-in-law, Diana, and her soon-to-be sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, both left it out of their wedding vows.

Royal bride-to-be Meghan Markle won’t be promising to ‘obey’ Prince Harry when they exchange their wedding vows at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

So what will the loved-up couple say to each other at the altar? According to the Official Order of Service issued by Kensington Palace, they’ll first declare to be faithful and to love, honour and protect one another.

Later in the ceremony, they’ll exchange the following vows: “I … take you … to be my wife/husband, to have and to hold from this day forward; for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part; according to God’s holy law. In the presence of God, I make this vow.”
