The half-n@ked body of a woman was found in Vlei, Philippi, Cape Town, on Saturday, 3 August in a pool of water on Old Lansdowne Road.
Children, who were walking in the area, noticed the body and notified their parents who reported the matter to the cops.
Parent, Nomzamo Somatika (34) told the publication her 12-year-old son and his friends were walking towards the dam when they came across the body.
“They came home running saying there was a n@ked woman in a pool of water next to the road. We went to the scene and called the cops who quickly came to the scene.
“We’re shocked because the killing of women is not coming to an end in this country. We heard another woman was found in Kraaifontein, also in a pool of water, and also n@ked. We don’t know why we’re being killed. Sadly, this happens when we should be celebrating Women’s Month,” Nomzamo said.
Jeff Mauton (57), who sells bricks close to the kasi, said he saw the police gathered at the scene and went to see what was going on.
“The body was in a pool of water. I suspect it was dumped there at night and people only found it in the morning as motorists hardly use that road,” Jeff said.
Police spokesman Warrant, Officer Joseph Swartbooi said circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.
“Philippi police attended to a complaint on Saturday and upon arrival at the scene on Old Lansdowne Road, they found the body of an unidentified woman lying in the water,” Swartbooi said.
“The victim was declared dead on the scene by the medical personnel. An autopsy will be conducted to confirm cause of death. Philippi police registered an inquest for further investigation.”
