AmaZulu King Goodwill Zwelithini KaBhekuzulu has called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to provide clarity on the land reform issue.
The King wants an assurance in black-and-white that his nation’s land won’t be touched under land expropriation without compensation.
He’s addressed thousands in Durban for uMkhosi weLembe, formerly known as King Shaka’s Day celebrations.
The King is not backing down on his fight for his land.
He has called on Ramaphosa to make a commitment on paper that the land under the Ingonyama Trust won’t be transferred to state ownership.
“The President must come here to tell me and the Zulu nation, which I will call to gather here.
“He must tell us and then sign an agreement that the land of the Zulus will not be touched.’’
The King took a direct swipe at the government, questioning those who are calling for the abolishment of his Ingonyama Trust.
“I’m amazed because I don’t receive any money from the [Ingonyama] Trust Board. I don’t derive any salary from it, even a cent and the Government doesn’t give me any money. They can take the little money they give me, I don’t care because it’s peanuts. What can I do with thirty thousand? I’m the King of a big and powerful nation. They can go to hell.”
The King also used the occasion to call for an end to political killings and crime in KwaZulu-Natal.
