Opposition parties divided over Raymond Zondo appointment

Opposition parties are divided over the naming of Raymond Zondo as Chief Justice.

Zondo has been acting in the position since the departure of Mogoeng Mogoeng.

The DA, Freedom Front Plus, and the IFP have applauded the appointment, while the EFF says it was driven by factionalism in the governing party.

Meanwhile, legal expert Modidima Mannya said judges have been subjected to political attacks by irresponsible people.

“I think we should call upon anybody who raises questions to follow the correct procedure [and] provide the evidence.

“In the event that the allegations are true, definitely there must be consequences but to have these inflammatory, open unintelligent statements is not helping us in any way.”
