Kaizer Chiefs fire coach Stuart Baxter

OUR sister publication Soccer Laduma reports that Stuart Baxter has been FIRED by Kaizer Chiefs.

Baxter has been skating on very thin ice following Chiefs’ 1-0 loss to SuperSport United on Saturday.

And Baxter has indicated that he will not a problem if the club would tell him to pack and go anytime soon.

Baxter was livid after the match and said he is prepared to walk if the fans and management aren’t happy with his work.

He went as far as saying that he is the best thing to have ever happened to Chiefs in the past 20 years.

When asked after the SuperSport match if he has any message for the fans who want him out, Baxter said: “I do not have any message to the fans because if they want me to go, I’ll will go.”

He continued: “If the chairman says to me that I do not think you are doing a good job, I will walk. I have no problem doing that. I will walk myself out. If I do not think I am positively affecting the team, I will walk, no problem.”

“I am the only coach that has given this club any success in the last 20 years, but I have to go because we dominate the game and lose 1-0,” he stated.

“It is OK. They are fans, and they have the right to say exactly what they want. If that reflects what the chairman thinks and what the players think and the majority of our fans think, then maybe I should walk.

“But that is nothing a group of fans will decide, that’s something the football club or I will decide. If I get that feeling, then of course I will walk. But at the moment I’m looking at it as a game we should have won but we did not and that happens in football.”

After 23 matches, Chiefs are fourth in the DStv Premiership table with 39 points. They are 18 behind runaway leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns before their weekend clash against Stellenbosch FC where Arthur Zwane could be in charge.

Baxter follows right in the footsteps of Gavin Hunt who was also axed based on pressure from the angry fans.
