Concern over spike in pupil suicides

The Gauteng Education Department is calling on NGOs and other entities to join in the fight against pupil suicides.

Provincial Education MEC Matome Chiloane says the department receives reports of alleged suicides almost every day.

He says the department has put measures in place to address the spike, but the community must also play their part.

Chiloane was speaking at a School Safety Indaba in Boksburg on Saturday.

He said: “We are calling on more NGOs and entities to partner with us as we strive to fight the spike of learner suicides.”
