Production Foreman ( HRL15 )

Sappi Tugela Mill requires a Production Foreman to ensures maximum productivity in the section by managing and developing the shift team, using best-operating practices in compliance to all environmental, quality and safety policies and procedures.
This role reports to the Superintendent

The main responsibilities of this job are:

Sets performance standards for his team in the areas of quality, cost, delivery, safety and people, aligned with the section goals, the budget and the S-H-E-Q system and visually displays program
Monitors the operators’ performance against the best operating practices
Monitors the plant performance against the standards at least monthly, as well as the performance of the subordinates twice a year.
Takes corrective action when standards are not met
Manages S-H-E-Q system carrying out job and operational analysis, and monitors monthly the team’s performance against the S-H-E-Q objectives
Reports the performance against the standards
Plans the operations of the plant and shift to ensure maximum utilization of the Resources [raw materials, energy and people].
Puts plans in place and executes the plans to develop the people of the team.
Facilitates cross-functional team activities to improve plant safety, productivity, and quality
Communicates with the internal suppliers and the customers
Responds to customer feedback and takes corrective action if required
Coaches the operators
Issues clearances according to the relevant safety policies
Carries out plant inspections together with the safety reps
Carries out incident inspections together with the superintendent and the safety rep
Handles emergencies when required
Acts as a superintendent or as a foreman of another section if required.
Is responsible for maintaining discipline within the Department
Initiates SGA and promotes teamwork
Maintains shift moral and promotes a conducive working environment
Adheres to environmental policy and procedures including
Reduces wastes
Prevents spills
Meets environmental targets that apply to his sphere of influence
Complies with hazardous chemical handling procedure
Complies with environmental legal requirements
Carries out. Boil – out on machine
Makes out notifications on SAP
Involved in 5 way’s
Is involved in clothing changes during shut down
Ensures, safety & environmental compliance
Understands the SHEQ requirements of the Section.
Monitor subordinate’s performance against SHEQ requirements and corrects non-conformances.
Investigates incidents (SHEQ) and identify root causes of Non-Conformances and corrects deviations.
Maintains a high level of good housekeeping in the workplace at all time.

The ideal candidate should have:

Matric + Full N3 Pulp & Paper or NQF Level 4 Paper Board
Studying towards N4 and above will be advantageous
Two (2) years working experience in the manufacturing industry
Two years of supervisory experience
Computer Literacy
Two years of operating experience in a paper mill function
Drive Fork Lift & Crane
