Secunda Synfuels Operations (SSO) operates the world’s largest coal-to-liquids (CTL) facility and produces synthesis gas (syngas) through coal gasification and natural gas reforming, using Sasol’s unique and proprietary Fischer-Tropsch technology to manufacture synthetic fuel components, pipeline gas and chemical feedstock.

ABOUT THE ROLE / PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The purpose of this job is to ensure safe and efficient operations of the plant. This position can be filled from a Process Controller level going up to a Process Artisan, provided that the successful candidate meets all the requirements of the position at that level. This placement will be subject to the candidate fulfilling all the requirements of the career path and will be slotted according to the career path and the individual’s competency. The successful candidate will report to the Foreman.

FUNCTIONAL OUTPUTS
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to the following; conducting basic first line fault finding, applying standard operating procedures, quality assurance of the product, carrying out all tasks as allocated by shift leader, carrying out plant inspections and take logs, reporting all risk behaviors and unsafe conditions to the Senior Process Controller/Process Artisan and/or Foreman, sampling as per schedules, and maintaining required housekeeping standards.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Grade 12 with English, Maths and Science or N3 certificate
Sasol NQF or Section 13 Trade Test)
Driver’s license (Code 8/10) (Must)
In addition to a pre-employment medical examination, required to go through a physical fitness assessment as part of the normal selection criteria

Qualifications

Process Controller Grade 2 : Must have a NQF Level 2 Occupational/Trade Certificate
Process Controller Grade 1 : Must have a NQF Level 3 Occupational/Trade Certificate
Process Artisan Grade 2 : Must have a NQF Level 4 Occupational/Trade Certificate

Experience
Experience in a production environment (Must)
Related exposure and experience as a Process Controller.
Experience within a petro-chemical industry will be an advantage

Preference will be given to people with Gasification / Gas Cooling experience

Conduct visual inspections on the process and equipment
Report process deviations to the Foreman

Report all at risk behaviours and unsafe conditions to line Foreman
Maintain required housekeeping standards
Conduct basic fault finding (obvious faults).
Applies SOP.s
Understand equipment failure modes and defect identification and reporting
Demonstrate understanding of how equipment functions
Hazard identification
Conduct safety management system inspections, e.g. OSHA, ISO 14000/18000
Conduct basic risk assessments
Participate in incident investigation as and when required
Participate in MOC process as and when required
Perform daily plant inspections

Prepared to do uncomfortable and dirty work at times
Prepared to work overtime as and when required
Prepared to be called out sometimes when on weekend off, depending on plant requirements.
