Pro-Palestine protesters gathered outside Parliament’s 7th sitting

Police have swiftly removed a small group of pro-Palestine protesters who gathered outside of Parliament at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).

The Cape Youth Collective (CAYCO) held a small demonstration outside the first sitting of Parliament on Friday, aiming to keep Palestine on the agenda.

Police have stuck to their guns by not tolerating any disruption to proceedings in Parliament.

Earlier, three CAYCO members donning pro-Palestine regalia gathered outside the main entrance of the CTICC but were quickly ushered away.

CAYCO member Julia Hope said: “We are here with no intention to disrupt necessarily we have no intention to break any laws we have been met with numbers of riot police who are pulling up and telling us there is a designated zone to be standing, we are not sure what they mean.”

CAYCO members were barely outside the precinct for five minutes before public order policing abruptly ended their demonstration.

No other incidents of disruption have been reported at the sitting on Friday.
