Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi to be laid to rest on Friday

Inkatha Freedom Party founder Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi will be buried on Friday. Buthelezi died on Saturday at his home in Ulundi aged 95. The KwaZulu-Natal provincial government said Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube is in ongoing communication with the Presidency on the funeral arrangements.

“In their quest to grieve the sad passing of Prince Buthelezi in private, while accommodating mourners who are streaming in to pay their respects, the family has set up a marquee at the entrance of the homestead where a daily service will be held at 17h00,” the KwaZulu-Natal provincial government said in a statement.

Communities are encouraged to attend the 17h00 service so that they can allow the family the private space to prepare for the funeral.

Buthelezi has also been praised for his role in South Africa’s transition to democracy. His long political career ran parallel with his position as Prime Minister of the AmaZulu nation.
