Principal at Pretoria Girls’ High suspended amid fresh racism allegations at school

The Gauteng Education Department has suspended the principal at Pretoria Girls’ High, amid fresh allegations of racism at the school.

Twelve learners at the school have been suspended after being linked to allegations that they were sharing racial micro-aggressions on a whites-only WhatsApp group.

Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane visited the school on Tuesday afternoon.

MEC Chiloane said that the suspension of the headmistress at the Pretoria Girls’ High, Phillipa Erasmus, would be for three months pending the outcome of an investigation into the allegations of racism.

Erasmus was appointed in 2018 after previous incidents of racism at the school.

At the same time, members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and the African National Congress (ANC) were leading separate demonstrations at the school’s entrance, with the EFF carrying posters with the words “Racism has no place at Pretoria High for Girls”.

In addition to the heavy police presence, the school has also acquired the services of private security guards.
