
President Cyril Ramaphosa says South Africa is not a dysfunctional state. In a weekly newsletter, Ramaphosa says his administration is prioritizing the task of building a capable state adding that it is not an overnight process.
That as the country battles a high rate of unemployment, shrinking economy and failing state-owned entities.
Ramaphosa is promising to restore the health of state-owned enterprises.

He says SOEs that can’t deliver services, like Eskom and SAA, diminish the capacity of the state.
“A capable state starts with the people who work in it. Officials and managers must possess the right financial and technical skills and other expertise. We are committed to end the practice of poorly qualified individuals being parachuted into positions of authority through political patronage. There should be consequences for all those in the public service who do not do their work.”
The President admits, however, that some public servants have neglected their responsibilities.
He’s lamenting the state’s lack of capacity to adequately meet people’s needs throughout all spheres of government.

Twala was apprehended by a security guard from a popular grocery store chain at The Glen Mall, south of Johannesburg after he allegedly stole toiletries. Come Wednesday 22 January 2020, Longwe Twala will be appearing at the Booysens Magistrates Court on charges of shoplifting to the value of R200.
