Bheki Cele: Power cuts affect police work

Police Minister Bheki Cele says the ongoing power cuts also affect the work of the police.

He says officers have been injured by alleged criminals during the blackouts. Eskom is currently implementing Stage Five power cuts.

Cele said, “quite several police have got injured because of darkness, it does affect us. Police stations they come to a standstill because there is no electricity there but also the problems about the facility of the police is they are in the hands of the other departments especially when it comes to stations and generators in the hands of the other departments.”

“Even the technology of the police is in the other departments so it’s a call that we have been making that working together with the other departments or when necessary these power handed power to police we believe that we can better as police….we hope this is resolved and quickly so that we go back to normality and do our work in a normal way.”
