Missing Pinetown businessman found dead

Police have confirmed the body of missing Durban businessman Dhanpall Rajcoomar has been found.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said a case of murder was now being investigated by Bellair SAPS.

“On Thursday morning, just after 8 am, a body of a 53-year-old man was found with his hands tied behind the back and his legs were also tied with cable ties,” said Gwala.

She added the victim’s body was found in an abandoned house at Mount Vernon Road in Bellair.

“The victim was reported missing at Malvern SAPS,” said Gwala.

According to Prem Balram, director of Reaction Unit SA, Rajcoomar was reported missing on Wednesday.

“The family of Rajcoomar contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) at approximately 10 pm on Tuesday evening stating that he failed to return to his home in Gilletts, Pinetown.”

Balram said Rajcoomar operated a “truck for hire business” and on the day of his disappearance was expected to meet a customer outside the Bellair Police Station.

“According to his customer they were looking to hire his Isuzu truck to pick up a window frame.”

Balram said when the businessman failed to return home his family made enquires and obtained CCTV footage.

“The CCTV footage showed someone other than him driving the truck. His cellphone was switched on and rang without answer.

“The truck was recovered at a property in Chatsworth yesterday.”
