The Brazil international joined Barca for €120 million (R1.93bn), plus a further €40m in variables, which makes him the most expensive player in the club’s history. Manchester United are ready to bring FC Barcelona club-record signing Philippe Coutinho back to the Premier League, according to reports in England.
After a promising start to life at the Camp Nou, the new season has brought challenges for the talented playmaker and it’s unlikely the Spanish club would gain a significant return on investment if sold.
However, according to The Daily Mirror, United are open to ending his spell with the Blaugrana.
It’s been claimed that the 26-year-old has already contacted some of the senior figures in the Red Devils dressing room in order to gauge whether his arrival would be welcomed.
The Mirror further stated that United would be willing to pay €115m to secure his services but could face competition from Paris Saint-Germain.
The Ligue 1 side were heavily linked with Coutinho before he moved to Catalonia and he would join a side already packed with Brazilian teammates.
While the playmaker retains the confidence of Ernesto Valverde, there is no doubt that he has struggled to adapt to Barcelona’s style of play.
After yet another disappointing display at the Camp Nou on Saturday, Coutinho was whistled by many of the supporters – which Gerard Pique has since addressed. Coutinho has scored four goals and registered two assists in 25 LaLiga outings this season.
