TB HIV Care (THC), in existence since 1929, is an internationally recognised non-profit organisation. Purpose of the position:

Supervision and coordination of peer education team to ensure provision of a comprehensive mobile health care service. This involves ensuring that Peer Educators’ work schedules are organised; monitoring peer performance of duties; capacity building and training and ensuring that peer reporting is consistent.

Minimum requirements:

Grade 12
Minimum of 1 years’ work experience in the s.e.x work industry
Experience as a peer educator/or training in HIV and STIs
Computer literacy
Valid code 8 driver’s licence
Ability to write a report
Ability to listen and help people see the best solution for their own health
Ability to communicate effectively with a team

Supervision, coordination and capacity building of peers:

Ensure that Peer Educators have all been trained on basic HIV, AIDS, TB, STI and GBV, and outreach forms.
Compile outreach work-plans in consultation with the teams and Line Manager.
Ensure that outreach to all areas and locations is done as scheduled, by the requisite complement of Peer Educators.
Coordinate Peer Educators in properly conducting mapping outreach activities, as per the relevant protocols, under supervision of the Professional Nurse Counsellor.
Ensure that peers conduct behavior change interventions (BCI)
Ensure that Peer Educator reporting (on clients seen and interventions conducted) is done correctly and timeously.
Collate data from Peer Educators into a monthly summary report for funder reporting.
Ensure that Peer Educators adhere to the organisation’s policies, procedures, and standards. This includes ensuring that Peer Educators complete and submit all necessary documents correctly and on time (i.e. peer outreach forms, timesheets, etc.).
Conduct debriefing sessions as a “check in” with the team to ensure they are coping with work-related stress and challenges experienced during outreach, including internal stigma.
Identify key issues affecting the wellbeing of s.e.x workers and the success of the programme.
Ensure the safety of the team and that rules are respected at all times while on duty.
Monitor and evaluate the impact of outreach activities and compile a summary of activities to be submitted to the Line Manager on a weekly basis.

Conduct outreach activities with the mobile unit:

Go on outreach and work with Peer Educators to provide mentorship and support.
Complete relevant reporting tools correctly and submit to the Professional Nurse Counsellor on duty.
Refer clients to the mobile clinic and promote other programme services as appropriate.
Educate s.e.x workers on risk reduction, prevention interventions, and human rights.

The Peer Coordinator has all the responsibilities of a Peer Educator, including:

Partaking in information collection and consultation regarding programme development and improvement.
Identifying sex work areas and locations for pre-mobilisation.
Distribution of educational materials, condoms and lubes.
Assisting team in follow-up of referral of all new cases – HIV, TB and STIs.
Escorting clients to referral services.
Assisting with the development of new health promotional material.
Assisting clients with appropriate referrals for other issues related to psychosocial challenges (e.g. substance abuse and dependence, paralegal, ra_pe, etc.).
Monitoring human rights violations observed or reported by service users and document these observations and interventions.
Assisting with managing client crises, if needed.

Community engagement:
Collaborate with community role-players in engaging communities in providing friendly health services.
Report back to the Line Manager any positive or negative feedback from target population service users, clients, stakeholders, and the general community.
Identify and consult with different stakeholders including civil society, DOH, LAC, DAC and Law enforcement, health care facilities/providers, gatekeepers etc. and maintain relations with them.
Engage with s.e.x work community, including attendance of and participation in community advisory group (CAG) meetings.
Participate and assist in organising s.e.x work support meetings, community advisory group meetings and structures as directed by the Professional Nurse Counsellor and Project Coordinator.
Be involved in clinic sensitisation trainings.
Arrange and facilitate educational workshops.
Support project advocacy initiatives.

Stock Management

Maintaining and recording condoms and lube distribution.
Providing M&E with the stock distribution totals on a monthly basis.
Updating receipt of stock accordingly.

Filing Room

Creating new patient files.
Monitoring movement of patients files as per standard operating procedure (SOP).
Retrieving patients’ files as per appointment dates.
Daily filing.
Maintaining restriction of access to the filing room.

Other

The Peer Coordinator may be required to conduct or assist in data entry and cleaning.
Adhere to all relevant SOPs, policies, and standards.
General office administration.
