Somizi is following in his father’s footsteps #BlacksOnlyComedyShow

On Saturday night, Somizi, added yet another job to his resume as he stepped on the Blacks Only Comedy Show stage at the TicketPro Dome to try his hand at stand up comedy.

Somizi, who was born to two hilarious parents, feels as though this is a natural step. His father, the late Ndaba Mhlongo starred in shows such as Inyakanyaka and Upondo no Nkinsela while his mother, Mary Twala has been on shows such as Skwizas, eTv’s Scandal!, Ubizo (The Calling), Yizo Yizo and many more.

Mhlongo shared the stage with comics such as Daliso Chaponda (UK), Dwayne Perkins (US) and locals Kagiso Mokgadi, Mpho Popps, Sifiso Nene, Tumi Morake and Skhumba Hlophe (who featured on Mhlongo’s Comedy Central roast panel).

Speaking to the Sowetan, Mhlongo said that he was comfortable about his debut as he was born for this. “My father was one of the best comedians. Being funny is something that comes naturally. I don’t have to try hard.”

Although this was technically his first solo set, Mhlongo did get a taste for stand up comedy when he took on his panel at his Comedy Central Roast earlier this year.

“I believe in timing. I think it is the right time for me to do it. I always believed that I am funny and I can bring it on,” stated Mhlongo, explaining that this is not the first time he had been invited to be part of the show.
