Nurse who allegedly killed domestic worker set to take the stand in bail hearing

The Johannesburg nurse accused of killing her 21-year-old domestic worker, Busisiwe Nxumalo, allegedly for a R6 million payout is expected to take the stand in her bail hearing on Wednesday.

A week ago, Sithembile Xulu appeared at the Lenasia Magistrates Court on a charge of murder and insurance fraud.

According to police, the 48-year-old took out three separate life cover policies with three different insurance companies in Nxumalo’s name.

Xulu was arrested at her Vosloorus home in June after police tied her to Nxumalo’s disappearance – whose body was discovered at a dump site in Lenasia.

In a previous court appearance, the alleged killer nurse shared the dock with her gardener, Simon Mogale, who police have also linked to Nxumalo’s gruesome murder.

Xulu, who Legal Aid now represents, is set to present reasons why she should be released on bail.
