ANC secretary general Fikile Mbalula said the party was looking into the deployment of councillors and how they engage communities.
Mbalula was speaking on the sidelines of an ANC national working committee meeting in Rustenburg in the North West.
The party’s top leaders are in the North West assessing the state of the organization in that province.
Mbalula said a lack of governance was found to be at the center of failing municipalities in the province.
He said one the teething issues identified was councillors failing in executing their duties.
“Because the reason you are a councillor and employed politically is because you must interact with the people. You wake up, you breathe, you are the last line of intervention and interaction. When people cry about clinics and water, they see a councillor.”
