North West government issues warning to spazas selling expired food

North West MEC for Economic Development Virginia Tlhapi has issued a stern warning to those who are selling expired food items. Tlhapi says any harm suffered by consumers due to consumption of expired goods, will result in harsh action taken against the sellers.

The provincial Education Department earlier this week said all five learners at the Kgololosego primary school in Ventersdorp had been discharged from hospital after allegedly consuming an expired snack.

Tlhapi says her department has launched the Latela Molao campaign, aimed at curbing illegal sale of expired goods in tuck shops.

“We are doing this because we have seen in many occasions the tuck shops are selling rotten food. The tuck shops are also selling the food that are not even packaged. So, they even repackage. All those homeowners who have tenants that are not even legally in our country, also form part of the operations.
