A bitter fallout between former friends Nonku Williams and Bev Steyn has escalated into a serious legal dispute, with Steyn accusing the reality television star of maintaining a lavish lifestyle while allegedly failing to repay a significant loan.
What once seemed to be a strong and supportive friendship has now deteriorated into a tense and very public confrontation. Steyn claims that Williams owes her R125,000 — money she says was loaned in good faith during a time when the reality star was experiencing financial difficulties.
According to Steyn, the situation has left her deeply disappointed. She says the decision to help Williams was driven by compassion and trust, but the alleged failure to repay the loan has strained their relationship beyond repair.
With attempts to resolve the issue privately reportedly unsuccessful, Steyn has now taken the matter to court in an effort to recover the funds. For her, the dispute goes beyond money and has become a matter of principle and accountability.
Nonku Williams Accused of Ignoring Debt While Living a Luxury Lifestyle
At the centre of the controversy are claims that Nonku Williams has continued to spend on luxury goods while allegedly making no effort to repay the outstanding loan.
Steyn says she became increasingly frustrated after seeing reports and social media posts suggesting that Williams was indulging in expensive fashion purchases. One incident she referenced involved an alleged shopping spree where the reality star reportedly spent around R27,000 on items from the luxury brand Gucci.
For Steyn, this spending raised serious concerns about priorities.
She argues that if Williams could afford high-end clothing and accessories, she should also be able to begin paying back the money she borrowed. According to Steyn, even a small repayment or a clear repayment plan would have shown goodwill and a willingness to settle the matter responsibly.
Instead, she claims that there has been little to no communication about settling the debt. This silence, Steyn says, ultimately pushed her to pursue legal action as the only remaining option.
The dispute has since drawn attention from the public and media, especially given Williams’ profile as a reality television personality.
The disagreement reportedly dates back to a written agreement that was signed in August last year. According to Steyn, the document consolidated an earlier loan of R25,000 with an additional R100,000 that she later provided to Williams.
This brought the total amount owed to R125,000.
Steyn says the agreement also included a 50% interest rate and clearly stated that the full amount was expected to be repaid by September. However, she claims that the repayment deadline passed without any payment being made.
According to Steyn, the agreement was formalised to avoid misunderstandings and to ensure both parties were aware of the terms. She maintains that Williams fully understood the conditions of the loan at the time.
The alleged lack of repayment has left Steyn feeling betrayed, particularly because she says the arrangement was based on trust and a genuine desire to help someone in need.
Now, with the issue moving into the legal arena, Steyn says she hopes the courts will provide a fair resolution.
Speaking openly about the circumstances that led her to lend the money, Steyn explained that the decision was largely influenced by emotion.
She claims that Nonku Williams was going through a difficult period and feared losing her home. Hearing about that possibility deeply affected Steyn and motivated her to offer financial assistance.
“She was scared she was going to lose her home,” Steyn said while reflecting on the moment she decided to help.
She added that the situation resonated with her on a deeply personal level, particularly as a mother.
“That played on my emotions of being a mother,” she explained, suggesting that empathy rather than business considerations guided her actions at the time.
However, as the months passed without repayment, her perspective changed significantly. What began as an act of kindness has now turned into a source of frustration and anger.
Steyn has since issued a stern warning regarding the legal pursuit of the alleged debt, making it clear that she intends to pursue the matter until it is resolved.
“She can run but she can’t hide,” she said firmly.
Despite the growing attention surrounding the controversy, Nonku Williams has largely remained silent about the allegations.
The reality star, who gained widespread recognition through her role on the popular South African reality television series The Real Housewives of Durban, has indicated that she prefers to handle the situation through the proper legal channels.
Her response so far has been brief and cautious. Rather than addressing the claims publicly, Williams has stated that the matter will be dealt with in court.
This approach suggests that she may be preparing to present her side of the story once the legal process formally begins.
The dispute between Bev Steyn and Nonku Williams highlights how quickly friendships can unravel when financial matters become involved.
What started as a gesture of support during a difficult time has evolved into a highly public legal conflict. Allegations of unpaid debt, extravagant spending, and broken trust have turned what was once a private issue into a widely discussed controversy.
As the case moves forward in court, both parties are expected to present their versions of events.
Until then, the once close relationship between Steyn and Nonku Williams appears to have completely collapsed, leaving the legal system to determine how the matter will ultimately be resolved.
